The Use Of The Word ''Ethnic''

The word Ethnicity in my personal opinion is a good alternative to ''race'' as ethnicity is based on something real unlike ''race''

According to Wikipedia an ethnic group is
a category of people who identify with each other based on common language, ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences.
unlike race which is solely based on physical appearance and more specifically skin tone, ethnicity is based upon deep-rooted cultural, linguistic, social and group experiences. So for example  Igbo people which is on ethnic group that largely lives in Nigeria and the diaspora. Same goes for Han Chinese.

Of course going by that definition everyone belongs to an ethnicity however some people mainly White people or people of European ancestry use the word wrong.

Many Whites and probably some non-whites use the word to donate non-whiteness or people of colour. Occasionally you'll hear someone say ''ethnic food'' or ''ethnic area'' to describe food or areas/neighbourhoods that are predominately Non-white. This description of people is offensive and it highlights the mentality of people of European ancestry. Anything not white is described as ''ethnic'' as if White people don't belong to any ethnic groups.
  • English is an ethnicity
  • French is an ethnicity
  • Italian-American is an ethnicity
  • Romani is an ethnicity
So please in future stop saying ''ethnic'' to mean anything non-white!
