Cognitive Dissonance And White Supremacy

Below is the definition of Cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time, performs an action that is contradictory to one or more beliefs, ideas or values, or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values.
Many people suffer from this ''mental stress'' as Western society seem to be intellectually closed minded when it comes to excepting new factual information. So to keep their old belief system the individual must create a valid reason in their own minds to keep their own beliefs.

Recently I've realised that this mental condition links perfectly with White supremacy ideology.

A lot of people hold stereotypes of other 'races' and groups of people due to the White supremacist power structure; be it they got it from their parents, TV, newspapers or the education system. Many people take in this information as fact so when someone mentions an alternative to their belief system the person will try to protect that belief system no matter if it makes literally zero sense.

One example is when a Black Man or Woman is asked ''Why don't you date other Black Men/Women'' the answer among some can be ''I don't like Black Men/Women because they are [insert stereotype]'' after this statement if the person is given information that prove not all Black Men/Women are like the said stereotype the person will protect the statement that reinforces their point of view. The person may respond with ''Well, all the ones I've met are [insert stereotype]'' obviously not every single Black Man/Woman fits into a neat stereotype.

The Wikipedia article continues to say;

An individual who experiences inconsistency (dissonance) tends to become psychologically uncomfortable, and is motivated to try to reduce this dissonance—as well as actively avoid situations and information likely to increase it
This translates in close mindedness and a inability for the majority of the world's population to get out of this ideology, though yes many people have become aware of white supremacy ideology, racism and by extension sexism, the corrupt meat industry and many other widespread societal issues.

This message is to challenge your beliefs on the way you see beauty, other groups of fellow Humans, challenge the information you get about far flung places and stand up when someone is misinformed.
